The app
What is DoseMed?
DoseMed is a free, privacy-first medication reminder and pill tracker for iPhone that works without an account. It reminds you at each dose time, logs what you take, counts down your pill supply and warns you before you run out. It also includes 9,900+ FDA drug labels from DailyMed and an AI assistant for questions about your own medications.
What is the best medication reminder app for iPhone if I care about privacy?
Look for an app that works without an account and keeps your list on the device. DoseMed does both: there is no sign-up, your schedule and history are stored on your iPhone, it works offline, and iCloud sync is optional and runs through your own Apple account.
How do I set a medication reminder on iPhone?
In DoseMed, tap +, search for the medication or type its name, choose the days and times, and save. A notification arrives at each time with Taken, Snooze and Skip buttons, so you can log the dose from the lock screen.
Will the reminder go off if my phone is on Do Not Disturb?
Yes, if you allow Critical Alerts for DoseMed. They are optional and can sound even during Do Not Disturb or a Focus mode. Regular notifications follow your Focus settings.
Can DoseMed tell me when I am running out of pills?
Yes. Enter how many pills are in the box when you add a medication. Every dose you mark as taken is subtracted, and a low-stock alert appears while there is still time to refill.
Can I use DoseMed for my dog or cat?
Yes. The drug database includes 370+ veterinary products, marked with a paw, and you can set reminders for a pet’s medication the same way as your own.
Does DoseMed have widgets?
Yes. Home Screen widgets show your next dose, today’s doses and today’s progress, and you can mark a dose as taken from the widget.
Which languages is DoseMed available in?
The app is available in English, Arabic, French, German, Japanese, Russian, Spanish, Vietnamese.
Drug information and the AI assistant
Where does DoseMed’s drug information come from?
From DailyMed, the U.S. National Library of Medicine's archive of FDA-approved drug labelling. It is the labelling manufacturers submit to the FDA. It is U.S.-centric, can lag real-world practice and is not guaranteed to be error-free.
Can DoseMed check drug interactions?
Each medication page shows the drug interactions section of its FDA label, and you can ask the AI assistant about combinations on your list. Treat the answer as a starting point and confirm with your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.
Is the AI assistant a doctor?
No. It is a research and organisation aid. It can explain label information and help you prepare questions, but it can be wrong, and it never tells you to start, stop or change a dose.
What happens to what I ask the assistant?
Your message and the names of the medications on your list are sent through our server to an AI provider (OpenAI) to generate the answer. We do not store conversations in a database, and the chat is discarded when you close it.
Pricing
Is DoseMed free?
Yes. DoseMed is free to download and every feature works on the free plan. The free plan includes 1 active medication reminder and 3 AI assistant messages.
How much does DoseMed Premium cost?
Premium is $0.99 a week, $2.99 a month or $9.99 a year (about 72% less than monthly). It removes the limits on reminders and AI messages and starts with a 7-day free trial. Prices shown in USD. The App Store charges in your local currency, so prices vary by region.
What does Premium unlock?
Unlimited medication reminders and unlimited AI assistant messages. Nothing else is held back: the drug database, refill alerts, widgets, history export and the app lock are all free.
How do I cancel Premium?
Subscriptions are managed by Apple. Open Settings on your iPhone, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and cancel DoseMed. Cancel at least 24 hours before renewal to avoid the next charge.
Privacy and data
Do I need to create an account?
No. There is no sign-up, email address or phone number. Open the app and add your first reminder.
Where is my medication data stored?
On your iPhone. Your medication list, schedule and dose history are stored in the app’s on-device database, not on a DoseMed server.
Does DoseMed work offline?
Yes. Reminders, dose logging, refill tracking and the drug catalog work without a connection. The AI assistant and detailed label sections need the internet.
How do I move my data to a new iPhone?
Turn on iCloud sync in DoseMed’s settings. Your data then syncs through your own iCloud account to any iPhone signed in to the same Apple account. DoseMed cannot read it.
Is DoseMed HIPAA compliant?
HIPAA applies to healthcare providers, insurers and their business associates, not to a personal app you use on your own. DoseMed avoids the question by design: it does not collect or store your health information on its servers.
Devices
Is DoseMed available on Android or the web?
Not at the moment. DoseMed is available for iPhone (iOS 18.0 or later) through the App Store.
Can I export my dose history?
Yes. Export your history as a CSV file from the app, then share it with your doctor or keep it for your records.
