A medication reminder for an elderly parent
Set DoseMed up on your parent's iPhone in a few minutes: add each medication with its times, turn on Critical Alerts so reminders sound even when the phone is silenced, and enter pill counts so the app warns before a refill is due. There is no account or password for them to remember.

How to set it up
- 1Install DoseMed on your parent's iPhone. There is no sign-up, so there is nothing to log in to later.
- 2Add each medication: search the name, then choose the times and days. Add a note such as "with breakfast".
- 3Allow notifications and Critical Alerts, so reminders sound even when the phone is muted or in a Focus.
- 4Turn on stock tracking and enter how many pills are in each box. DoseMed warns before a refill is due.
- 5Add the Today's doses widget to the Home Screen, so the day's medications are visible without opening the app.
Features that help
Why simple matters
Many older adults take several medications at different times of day, and a missed or doubled dose matters more with every extra pill. The best reminder is the one that keeps working without help: no password to reset, no account to verify, and an alert loud enough to notice.
What your parent will see
At each dose time a notification arrives with three buttons: Taken, Snooze and Skip. Tapping Taken logs the dose and subtracts it from the pill count, so "did I already take it?" has an answer: the Schedule screen shows every dose of the day and whether it was taken.
Before a refill runs out
With stock tracking on, DoseMed counts down each box and shows a low-stock alert on the schedule. That gives time to call the pharmacy before the last pill.
What DoseMed does not do
- DoseMed cannot alert you on your own phone if your parent misses a dose. If you need remote alerts, consider Medisafe's Medfriend feature or Apple Health sharing.
- There is no Apple Watch app.
Frequently asked questions
What is the easiest medication reminder app for seniors?
Look for one with no account, loud reminders and simple logging. DoseMed needs no sign-up, can send Critical Alerts that sound even when the phone is muted, and lets a dose be marked as taken straight from the notification or a Home Screen widget.
Can I check whether my parent took their medication from my phone?
Not with DoseMed. It keeps all data on your parent's phone and does not share it. Apple Health can share a medication list with family, and Medisafe can alert a Medfriend about missed doses.
